Govert van Oord tapped as next Van Oord CEO

The Supervisory Board of Van Oord proudly announces its intention to nominate Govert van Oord as the incoming CEO of Van Oord. The formal appointment is scheduled to take place during Van Oord's Annual General Meeting of Shareholders on April 11, 2024.

"We are delighted to facilitate the transition of leadership within the Van Oord family business from its 4th to its 5th generation," expressed Niek Hoek, Chairman of the Supervisory Board.

Govert van Oord brings extensive experience to his new role, having been an integral part of Van Oord since 2002. He has held key positions across multiple regions, including the Middle East, Spain, and Brazil. Currently serving as the Managing Director of the Dredging & Infra Business Unit, Govert, aged 53, holds a background in civil engineering from Delft and an MBA from IMD in Switzerland.

Meanwhile, Pieter van Oord, who led Van Oord as CEO for over 15 years and served the company for a total of 30 years, will transition to join Van Oord's Supervisory Board. Simultaneously, he is set to be nominated by the Supervisory Board of Schiphol NV as the incoming CEO of Schiphol.

"We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Pieter on his proposed appointment as CEO of Schiphol, acknowledging the immense significance of this role to both Schiphol and Van Oord," stated Niek Hoek. "We express our sincere gratitude to Pieter for his enduring dedication and visionary leadership."

Pieter's tenure has been marked by transformative entrepreneurship, propelling Van Oord from a specialized dredging company to a versatile maritime contractor. The company's evolution, particularly in offshore wind operations, has positioned Van Oord strongly with two Business Units, Dredging & Infra and Offshore Energy. Their work daily addresses pressing societal challenges in climate adaptation and energy transition.

"On behalf of the Supervisory Board, we eagerly anticipate Govert's assumption of the CEO role, marking the succession to a fifth-generation CEO," concluded Niek Hoek.
