Fugro aims to solidify leadership in marine robotics

Fugro announces the finalization of a binding agreement for the complete acquisition of SEA-KIT International, a collaborator known for its pioneering advancements in uncrewed surface vessels (USVs) for low-carbon maritime operations and research.

The acquisition marks the culmination of a longstanding partnership between Fugro and SEA-KIT, characterized by a shared commitment to pushing the boundaries of USV technology. Together, the companies share they have achieved significant milestones, including:

- Introduction of the industry's commercially available remotely operated USV and electric powered remotely operated vehicle (ROV) combi solution for offshore asset inspection and monitoring.

- Approvals from multiple authorities across Europe, the Middle East, and Australia to operate the jointly developed USV and ROV combi solution through a global network of remote operations centres.

- Deployment of five Fugro Blue Essence® 12-metre USVs strategically positioned across key regions.

- Completion of the world's inaugural fully remote inspection of offshore wind farm assets conducted by a USV and integrated ROV.

- Recognition with numerous global awards celebrating innovations that enhance safety, speed, and sustainability in offshore operations.

The acquisition is anticipated to conclude by the end of 2023, pending customary closing conditions. SEA-KIT will aim to persist in delivering top-tier USV products, enabling cost-effective operations while significantly reducing carbon emissions, states the company. Anticipated advancements following this acquisition include the unveiling of the Blue Eclipse® 18-metre USV, tailored for swift pipeline and deep-water asset inspections, alongside a zero-emissions hydrogen-powered USV.
