Europlan Group, headquartered in Dublin, has been awarded the EPCM (Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management) contract alongside Sumitomo Electric for a subsea power cable manufacturing factory in the Port of Nigg, Scottish Highlands. The initiative aims to fortify critical infrastructure supporting the offshore wind and renewable energy sectors' supply chains.

The announcement was made during Enterprise Ireland's Offshore Wind Forum held today (28 November) at Croke Park, Dublin. This knowledge-sharing event connects the burgeoning Irish offshore wind supply chain with influential figures from the Irish, UK, and global offshore wind markets.

Minister of State for Trade Promotion and Digital Transformation, Dara Calleary T.D., emphasized the significance of this announcement in showcasing the opportunities for Irish companies to participate in international offshore wind supply chains. Ireland aims to deliver significant offshore wind energy by 2030, with further plans for non-grid use, ramping up to 37GW by 2050. The skills honed through such international projects are crucial for Ireland's own offshore wind endeavors.

Leo Clancy, CEO of Enterprise Ireland, highlighted the contract's value, underlining the substantial growth opportunities for Irish businesses meeting the offshore wind sector's supply chain needs. He emphasized how technical expertise and innovation from Irish companies can contribute to the global offshore wind industry's substantial energy generation ambitions.

Donnchadh Campbell, MD at Europlan Group, expressed enthusiasm for winning the competitive contract, affirming the recognition of Irish engineering's quality and capability on an international scale. The Port of Nigg project represents a crucial step in bolstering infrastructure supporting the transition to green and renewable energy sources.

The Offshore Wind Forum, organized by Enterprise Ireland, provided updates on both the Irish and UK offshore wind markets, shedding light on opportunities in markets such as France, Germany, Italy, and the Nordics. The event addressed emerging areas in offshore wind, including floating technology innovations and the supply chain's role in facilitating industry growth.
