How do we turn challenges into opportunities and create a robust supply chain for offshore wind projects, despite the obstacles we may face on the way?

Jan Behrendt Ibsø, Group Senior Market Director at COWI, shares his perspectives on how wind energy can help us meet the national and global climate targets we have set.

"The wind industry and wind energy are playing a significant role in the decarbonisation of our society. They also play into an important role in terms of meeting the national and global climate targets we have set."

"The biggest and current challenge in the wind sector is the constraints we see in the supply chain - in particular the constraints we see for wind turbines. So, with the plans we have for building wind towards 2030, we will need a sustainable and robust supply chain. I think we can turn this challenge into an oppertunity, for example, by looking at the way we design structures and components. So if we design components to fit the local supply chain, we can actually reduce CO2 emissions, and we can also reduce the price and make sure that we build up a robust local supply chain."

"We can also look at how we do offshore wind tender market design, not only looking at the price as a criterion but include other important areas like biodiversity, sustainability, and how we do energy system integration."
